1-4-1 Challenge Update

As many of you know (or read) we had a campaign at the end of November and all through December for the Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge. Our campaign was titled the 1-4-1 Challenge. 1-4-1 being the central theme of $1 for 1 lost soul for the kingdom of heaven.

Well the kid’s (and parents) were amazing!! They were able to give almost $1,700 in 6 weeks!! And with that save as many souls for our Lord. I’m very proud of our kids!! They did an amazing job with raising money through servant work and giving freely without hesitation.

As we move forward into 2010 our new BGMC goal is $7,500 and the kid’s are PUMPED!!! I know this year we will set a new church giving record. The kid’s (and parents) are going to be floored!

As Far as You Can Go Without a Passport

Once again I’ve slacked on my commitment to you all. It’s been a staggering 3 month since I wrote last about our time in Alaska. Well let’s dust off this old computer keyboard and start writing again!!

Last month, as many of you know, was the month of “LOVE”… Valentine’s Day! It seems more like an excuse to take a long road trip, buy overpriced gifts and bring you to your financial knees!! HAHA, no just kidding it’s a great holiday to show just how much you love your wife or husband. That’s exactly what I tried to do this V-Day, only it was a week late (due to AKSOM).

“What did you do?” one might ask. Well we did what any Alaskan couple would do, well at least once… LANDS END!! We traveled all the way to the end of the Homer spit and stayed at the world famous Lands End Hotel. I was fortunate enough to land a phenomenal room that had a spectacular view of Kechemak Bay.Which also had a deck outside to sit and relax while watching the ships and birds fly by. It’s nice to kick back and enjoy each others company after a long and busy winter!! While at Lands End we played around the beach area back behind the hotel. It was a wonderful day filled with laughter and smiles! The best part coming at lunch and dinner when we ate at Fat Olives and the Lands End Restaurant.

The next morning we continued our tradition every time we travel to Homer; lunch at Two Sisters and coffee on Bishop Beach!! It was a perfect way to top off our V-Day celebration. It never ceases to amaze me just how calming and breathtaking the view is down there. It’s our favorite hideaway and as far a you can go without a passport!!

Going Rogue Or Going Home…R

As usual I’m constantly catching up on posts to get all that I’ve set aside out!! Recently I was able to get pictures from August when Ashliegh’s mom and sister came and stayed with us in Alaska. Although we were not able to spend as much time with them as we would have liked, during one weekend, we were able to go to Homer, AK and have some fun!!

While in Homer, we all became tourist! We walked up and down the spit (plenty of exercise). It was great to show Mom and Taeya all the fun things Alaska (Homer) had to offer. Breathtaking scenery, great seafood and a great time!!

It was nice to show them our world up here in “The Last Frontier” and have them experience our day to day living. Being in Alaska is not like living in the lower 48. It requires a special kind of individual to handle the winters, but when spring and summer roll around… IT’S PLAY TIME!!!

I know for Ashliegh and I it was great to see family come up to Alaska and share with them what we fell in love with. It’s sometimes hard for family to understand why their loved ones leave and go to “far away” places. However, it makes those muddled thoughts clearer when they’re able to partake in our daily lives.

We loved having Momma Hellard and Taeya up here to visit. It will hopefully not be the last time either! Next summer my family, Momma Levesque and Papa Levesque, will be visiting as well and I can’t wait!! I wanted to share some photos I shot during our time on Bishop Beach in Homer. Again, photography is something that I love and hopefully I “Santa” will bring me a nice camera for Christmas!! (hint, hint). ENJOY!

1-4-1 Challenge (Insert Rocky Theme Here)

It was an exciting week for Kenai Kids last week. Hold up, wait!! Let me go back and fill you in. Kenai Kids is our children’s ministry here at Kenai New Life A/G and I kicked off our first ever 1-4-1 (one for one) challenge last week. This challenge is to support our missionaries in the field through BGMC (Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge).

The exciting part revolves around kids donating their time and money to help spread the “Good News.” I challenged our children to save 2,000 lives for the kingdom of God (Hints: The name 1-4-1). It refers to the statistical trend to which each dollar donated saves one life for God’s kingdom. Thus, I’ve encouraged our kids to donate 2,000 dollars of their hard earned money to the BGMC cause.

You might be pondering the word “hard earned” when it comes to kids and money, but rest assure hard work is what it will take. I challenged parents to promote hard work and self-sacrifice with their children. Parents are not to “give” money when asked but must require some form of physical activity to earn those dollars. It’s a process I hope will build servant leaders and generous Christians.

I’m excited to see if we can achieve our goal as a church. With only 6 weeks to donate 2,000 dollars, things could get tight. However, I know with God’s grace and help we can do anything. And as always remember, DREAM BIG!!

Deadliest Catch… Overboard

Living in Alaska is a blessing and one of the most fun, exciting and beautiful places I’ve ever seen. A lot of people, both friends and family, want to come up and visit. To which I say, COME ON OVER!!! However, there are/were a few people that may not understand Alaska’s awesome natural beauty and ferocity.

Which brings us to Mr. Mark Ringuette. A great friend and a man of MANY words (hints the nickname “Mouth”). Since I’ve been in Alaska, his goal has been to live the life of a crabbing deckhand. Some of you may know this through the show “Deadliest Catch” in which a variety of crab boats leave Dutch Harbor, AK, during the months of late October and November, to catch the lucrative and elusive Alaskan King Crab.

During my stay in Boston, MA in September, Mark repeatedly asked to go “Deadliest Catching,” insinuating his strong will and fearless agenda in “The Last Frontier.” On Friday, the day before his wedding, Mark treated his groomsmen to a day trip on a 20+ foot catamaran sailboat. With 10-12 foot squalls and a stormy weather pattern approaching, Mark was in for his very own Deadliest Catch show. Aside from getting a little wet, because of having fun with the waves, it was a great time on the catamaran. Mark, on the other hand, had quite a time getting his sea legs under him. To spare you the details, let just say Mark didn’t talk about the Deadliest Catch anymore…

The “Central” Theme

It’s been a little while since I’ve updated you all on Ashliegh’s status. First, I’m going to ask you to buckle up because these past two months have been quite the wild ride. The last thing you heard, Ashliegh was in the trenches of school, working towards a PERFECT first semester. That hasn’t changed much, in fact she’s on course (no pun intended) to ace both classes (not an easy feat in college). What has changed relates to her direction from this point out.

She was working towards her prerequisites needed to apply for the nursing program. During this time, for money, she was working at a local dance studio teaching ballet and tap. Also, she was gearing up for an interview at Central Peninsula Hospital for a per diem surgical technologist job. This is where we’d like you to put your tray tables up and your seat backs in their upright and locked position. As she went in for her interview, that day mind you, a women in the surgical services unit quit. What makes this story compelling and AWESOME is the fact that she was a surgical technologist.

Needless to say Ashliegh had her “interview” and was not only offered a job but a full-time surgical technologist position!! God is SO good and he has great plans for Ashliegh. To catch you up to warp speed, Ashliegh accepted the position and will start as soon as her documents come back (drug & background check). She has decided to put the nursing path on hold and perhaps for other reasons besides the hospital…

Kustatan, Man!!

Picture this, an eight sitter airplane filled with six outdoors men, one pilot and one fishing guide. There’s a thick fog rolling in over the western side of the inlet, looking as if it had risen from the very ground it now hides. The pilot, eager to get his men into position, dives down into an opening from the seemingly blanket covered land. What great imagery and thrilling atmosphere for a potential Alaskan movie, yet it does little justice to the actual excitement of my trip!!

The Silver Beast!

Thanks to the generosity of Kyle, I was blessed to participate in this “once in a lifetime” opportunity. I never realized just how special this trip was until I took a minute to reflect on what it took to get there. Flying, a private charter, across the inlet to an uninhabited part of Alaska. Calling upon the services of an Alaskan guide to show us around the river. But most importantly, the relationships and discipleship that took place during the course of our 7 hour journey. I will always remember my Kustatan River Adventure!!

A thrilling experience by itself, was the ride over to the river. As I stated earlier the fog was thick and the pilot made numerous attempts to fly under the fog (using the river as his guide). Unfortunately, because we couldn’t see both the start and mouth of the river, it made those attempts futile. As for the action involved in such attempts, they can be classified in one word… AWESOME!!

What a Beautiful Day!!

By the end of the day I had caught a nice 16 pound silver (biggest of the group!!) and had an amazing time with a great friend!! I can’t put into words just how amazing a trip like that is. Also, I was able to see a part of Alaska I would never have dreamed of. God is great and so wasn’t the food the guide cooked up after we were done!! We truly had “FRESH” silver salmon and an incredible day!!!

School’s Out?!

We always say that learning is a constant process in our lives. How true a statement but Ashliegh and I have turned up, the proverbial learning curve, a notch. In August Ashliegh, FINALLY, registered for two classes at Kenai Peninsula College towards a degree in nursing. She started in September and has been cruising through her math and psychology course work. As I’ve always known, she is an amazing student and takes an enormous amount of pride in her work. With midterms over, “A’s” in both classes, she is well on her way to being admitted into the U of A (A = Alaska) nursing program!! Just a F.Y.I. she will be an amazing nurse!!

Kenai Peninsula College

As for myself, I recently enrolled and started AKSOM (Alaska School of Ministry) classes. AKSOM is a credentialing tool for those in ministry whom haven’t attended Bible school. The classes are one Saturday a month from 9-5. Course work is completed prior to arrival. I’ve already enrolled in two classes including “Life of Christ” and “Ephesians” (some of you may have already known by my twitter updates). Awaken From My Slumber!!

To say that I’ve lacked in upkeep for Lov’in Levesque would be a HUGE understatement. In fact if you have been (or had been depending on your “tense”) subscribing to this blog I owe a HUGE apology for my absence. However, since I’ve been away from writing I’ve had the opportunity to gain a lot of material to write about. Slowly but diligently I will layout all of our adventures and stories that come along with living in Alaska.

We will be adding a new feature to our blog soon, video! I think it will add something new and exciting. Hopefully we will be able to reach others with our stories and testimonies. For now, however, I want to share some of my photography I’ve taken this summer. Some of these pictures are older, and many of you have seen them, but they are the start of my renewed passion for photography!! Enjoy!
